Well, my Easter was absolutely amazing! I saw God work in a mighty way!
My prayer, since the moment I met my sweet boy, has been that he would become a believer at a young age. I asked God repeatedly that He reveal Himself to my son when Cohen was young, so that with his childlike faith, he may become a believer and hopefully not have to endure the hardships and consequences of a life without Christ.
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” - Matthew 19:14
About two weeks ago, while we were driving home from school, Cohen told me that he was angry. I asked “why?” and he said “Because you won’t let me get baptized!” I was shocked. He had asked before, but we kept saying he wasn’t ready and that he didn’t fully understand what it meant to be baptized. When I got home, I called Jace and told him we needed to have a serious discussion with Cohen about salvation. We did. He got it. I mean, he totally got it. He explained that Jesus already lived in his heart, and he wanted to get baptized, but again, he mentioned very sternly, that Jace and I would not let him.
We decided we would not stand in the way any longer. We setup a meeting with the Children’s Pastor at our church to see what the next step would be. He met with us and Cohen and discussed salvation and baptism. Cohen knew exactly what he wanted, and that was to get baptized. He was so adamant about the fact that Jesus had already forgiven his sins, and Jesus wanted him to follow Him and get baptized.
Well, on Easter Sunday our son was baptized. Currey Creek had planned to do baptisms after the service on the Town Square in Boerne that day, so what better day to be baptized. They setup a large pool right in front of the stage and after the message, the pastor invited anyone who wanted to be baptized to come forward. Cohen basically ran to get in line. He was so excited!
I should mention that the water was VERY cold!! They decided to skip the heater, because the weather was so bad, they didn’t want to chance having a heater in a pool of water during a thunderstorm.
I just love this picture. He was just so excited!
And last, here’s the video. You can tell from the video that they just let all the kids come up and gather around the pool to watch. What an amazing way to share your faith!
Train up a child in the way he should go;
even when he is old he will not depart from it. - Proverbs 22:6
I cannot even begin to express our gratitude for everyone who has been on this journey with us. From our families, friends, Sunday School teachers, AWANA leaders, Pastors, and the list could go on for days. There have been so many people praying over this boy and training him up with the knowledge of Christ. If you ever doubt if your work with Children in the church is a waste, take this as proof that it is NOT! You are making a huge different in the lives of children! Our prayer for all of our children should be that they come to know and love Christ at an early age!
